It allows the tyer to use the open frame to maniuplate thread tension and bobbin-to-shank distance llike second nature. The drag tension knob is set within the spool, allowing adjustment but not coming undone during the tying process.
Tyers focusing on dries, nymphs, and smaller flies will love how compact the shorty size is and how well it fits in tight situations. It is very accurate and allows a ton of control.
